the festival location

WAGGONHALLE MARBURG

With the 28th edition of the international short film festival, the film festival took place for the first time on the premises of the Waggonhalle cultural center.
It is already confirmed: the 29th OpenEyes Film Festival in 2024 will once again be held on the premises!

The new festival location, with its green industrial architecture from the early 20th century, creates the cozy, summery atmosphere that has accompanied the character of the festival since its first edition. The expansiveness of the grounds also provides the opportunity to find a personal space for participating in the events.

All film screenings, as well as the accompanying program, will take place at various venues within the area.

outdoor area

open-air

The festival area is designed with great attention to detail to suit the annually changing thematic focus of the festival. Each section of the venue shines in the corresponding festival colors and impressive installations that transport visitors into a world full of creativity and inspiration.

The extraordinary atmosphere of the festival grounds creates a unique environment that allows visitors to immerse themselves in a fascinating world, contributing to a special ambiance during the evening open-air screenings.

Here, festivalgoers not only have the opportunity to experience a diverse film program, but the festival area also offers many additional activities each year that enhance the overall festival experience.

From interactive art installations and captivating live performances to inspiring panel discussions, there are numerous opportunities to be swept away by the magic of the festival beyond the film screenings.

Every visit to the venue promises an exciting journey of exploration through the world of film and art.

theater

All festival program blocks are presented in the theater. The discussion panels directly follow the screenings, focusing on each festival category.

The screenings for the individual competition categories take place in the theater auditorium of Waggonhalle, transformed into a cinema. This includes the program blocks for the festival categories and the annual film block related to the festival’s main focus.

Discussions with the attending filmmakers take place immediately after the screenings at that location.

film cabinet

The Film Cabinet (formerly ‘Garagenkino’) is a mini-festival within the festival. In addition to the official submissions, many films are also sent in each year for the festival’s open screen.

Here we give undiscovered talents the chance to bring their films to the screen. A space for open screenings and discussions between the audience, professional filmmakers and those who want to become one.

rotkehlchen

gastronomy

The restaurant “Rotkehlchen” is located in the Waggonhalle and, with its unique industrial flair, is one of the most attractive addresses in Marburg.

Even during the festival days, Rotkehlchen is the place for a break and, of course, for gastronomic services. Here, you can find cold and hot drinks, various snacks, and occasionally, there’s even an OpenEyes Party during the festival.
